U.S. Virgin Islands – St. Croix

Slave Wrecks Project work in the U.S. Virgin Islands is spearheaded by the two core partners of the National Park Service: the Submerged Resources Center and the Southeast Archaeological Center and developed in close collaboration with the St. Croix National Park Service In 2014, preliminary fieldwork surveys and community engagement work began in St. Croix. SWP efforts focus on the Buck Island Reef National Monument (BUIS), Christiansted National Historic Site (CHRI) and Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve (SARI). In 2015, SWP has initiated efforts in the U.S. Virgin Islands by conducting archival research, and surveying and examining key locations at BUIS, CHRI, and SARI.
