"Tales of Oblivion" Film Screening

October 2, 2026

Tales of Oblivion explores Portugal’s often erased role in the transatlantic trafficking of enslaved African people. Through new archaeological findings in Southern Portugal, this film highlights the distance between what we want to forget and the urgency of memory.

Join the Slave Wrecks Project for screening and panel discussion for the documentary, Tales of Oblivion, A Film by Dulce Fernandes on Friday October 2nd, 2026 in the Myers Room at The George Washington University Museum and The Textile Museum. The event is free, open to the public, and requires no tickets.

About the Speakers

Dulce Fernandes is an Angolan-born, Brooklyn-based filmmaker whose other work includes Letters from Angola. Fernandes will join a discussion with Slave Wrecks Project archaeologists Gabrielle Miller and Steve Lubkemann. Paul Gardullo, Slave Wrecks Project Co-Director, will moderate the discussion.
